I love technology and information. That is the true reason why I wear a Basis band 24/7, not because it is a part of my fitness routine. The Basis band looks like a watch but does a whole lot more. It logs my movement, heart rate, skin temperature, and perspiration; which is then interpreted by cloud-based software and presented in pretty charts. One of the features on offer by Basis is a detailed analysis of your sleep habits.
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter at the southern edge of Napa struck at 3:20 a.m on Sunday, August 24th. The next day, a lot of friends and family asked me if I felt the quake. I had to tell them that I had no idea, I didn't recall if it caused me to wake up or not. That is, until I took a look at my sleep data. Sure enough, I was sound asleep all night. The Basis did register a couple toss and turns right around when the earthquake hit, and I did go from deep sleep to light sleep at about the right time, but I definitely did not wake up.
The moral of this story is, technology is awesome and it can impact our lives in very interesting ways. I can't wait to see what comes next.
